Have you heard about this iPhone app, Overcome Anorexia? This $4.99 application, by Joseph Clough (“an international Trainer and Therapist whose goal in life is to help each person achieve their full potential”), utilizes hypnosis/hypnotherapy to help improve users’ self-esteem and relationship with food. There’s also a goal-setting track to help “realign” the listener with success.

When I first heard about this, I thought it was going to be ridiculous, but I actually think it’s a cool idea. People need help outside the therapist’s office, and hypnosis, self-hypnosis, and guided meditation have been shown to have positive effects. I definitely have some on my iPhone for nights when I have a hard time falling asleep. Much cheaper than Xanax or Ambien, my friends.

In a sea of smartphone apps about how to lose weight, track calories, and find the lightest options at fast food chains, it’s refreshing to see something out there that aims to improve the user’s body image and feelings of self-worth. Whatever a person’s health goals, self-confidence, empowerment and a loving relationship with their body are key to meeting those goals and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
