A 12-year-old from Denver, CO has started an organization and website called Fast Food Free, in an effort to encourage people to give up fast food. A vegetarian, Kao Halpern issued a challenge on Earth Day, urging visitors to the site to give up fast food for two weeks in order to benefit their health and the planet.

Said Halpen, “We all know that fast food can make you unhealthy, but not a lot of us can actually connect fast food to environmental issues.” He was moved to begin Fast Food Free by research that showed how fast food, in addition to just being flat-out unhealthy, also plays a big role in animal abuse and environmental stress.

I like this kid.  He even outlines ways to achieve the organization’s goal, which is to “reduce the consumption of fast food through education and community awareness resulting in healthier people and a better world.”
