Yesterday’s eats came to a grand total of $7.33—almost 70 cents over the $6.64 ($46.50/7=~$6.64) I was shooting for, but not too shabby for three meals and three snacks.
I don’t know what was up, but I was so hungry yesterday, despite eating plenty of protein, fiber, and healthy fats (not to mention lots of fruits, veggies, and whole grains). As I’ve been learning to take “rest” days, I never cease to be amazed at how it almost seems I’m more ravenous on days I don’t exercise.
I suppose it makes sense, as that’s when the body repairs itself and the muscles grow—both things require adequate fuel. The more I learn about exercise physiology, the less I realize I know. It makes me want to learn even more, though!
Day 2 of this Food Stamp Project will entail a little less cooking and a bit more on-the-go time, but luckily I have lots of things on hand that are easy to throw in a purse or pack in a tupperware. I think there may be some roasted beets in my very near future as well.
The Trident Cafe in Boston makes these fries that are a mix of potatoes, sweet potatoes, yams and beets. I could totally go for that. This time of year I always find myself craving foods (and drinks) I equate with Boston. Or squash. I get way too excited about that every fall.
So far this morning, I’m off to a good start. My breakfast of oatmeal with cocoa powder, half a banana and a tablespoon of peanut butter only cost $0.52 (that’s with a cup of tea). We’ll see how the rest of the day goes. I know it will likely involve yesterday’s leftovers.
