Happy Thursday. Hope you’re enjoying a lovely first week of fall.

Just to give you a heads-up, it’s probably going to be a few weeks before I manage to stop mentioning the new season in my blog posts. It’s an annoying habit, but I have bigger fish to fry when it comes to behavior change.

Like, um, can we talk about my coffee consumption? Out. Of. Control. I was at WeWork the other day banging out a few articles, and I was starting to look for my future in a cup of espresso. It did not look like this:

I think that if I had to pick a favorite season, it would be fall. If I could just do summer and fall—rinse and repeat—I think I’d be a happy camper.

I hate spring (misleading, fickle, ghosts you like a modern-day third-date who “totally” respects you but only resurfaces when it’s convenient), and winter is just difficult to get through, but alas. This 4-season pattern is the reality I live in (global warming trends aside), so I intend to savor this current season and try to remember to appreciate each small step in this transition.

For starters, I have been burning the hell out of girly scented candles. Pumpkin Pie, Cedar, Cinnamon Spice…eying a Salted Caramel one I smelled at Bed Bath & Beyond. I am all about the baked-goods flavors. I would joke about this being one of those #perksofspinsterhood things, but I think it was reading a study about men being totally into vanilla/cinnamon-smelling stuff that made me be okay with this indulgence. That makes me a bad feminist, doesn’t it? pumpkin candle

Anyway, all the candles are all for me.

Fall makes me want to (want to) listen to The National, but what I really can’t stop playing because it’s so good? I’ve been binge-listening to Courtney Barnett. Still. Her music is everything I love and hate about being a female of the species right now—all sung with an Australian accent.

Oh yeah, we have a super-moon coming up Sunday. This explains a lot.

This post has been part of another Running with Spoons Thinking Out Loud link party, where randomness is the name of the game. Thanks to Amanda for hosting.
