Happy long weekend. Hope you’ve been up to some good stuff! I spent part of my Columbus Day holiday in Boston (or ok, 36 hours of it) trying on bridesmaid dresses with a bunch of lovely ladies, some of whom I know from college and some I was meeting for the first time.

Despite an epic 8-hour bus ride from New York that didn’t get Carrie, Caitlin and me in until 5 a.m. (!), we made it through appointments at three different boutiques. Carrie’s going for a rainbow theme at the wedding, so each of the seven bridesmaids will be wearing a different color in the same style dress. It was fun to see how the different salespeople worked with that idea and the suggestions they made.

Going on such little sleep had me relying on caffeine and sunlight, and lunch partway through definitely helped. I stuck with more coffee rather than a mimosa—out of character, I know, but alcohol makes me super-tired if I have it in the middle of the day, even when I’m operating on a full night of sleep!

I stayed with my aunt in Cambridge, so after the dress-shopping, I went back to her place and napped for an hour. She’s such a great hostess! Check out how cute she has the spare room set up! I was pretty cozy.

We walked over to Harvard Square around 7 for some Vietnamese food at Le’s. If you ever go here, order the Pho—noodle soup. It’s one of my favorite foods, and the perfect thing on a cool fall night. I feel like I’ve been eating too much soup lately, but I can’t get enough, especially when the soup involves lots of veggies and all kinds of seafood.

The rest of the night was spent at a surprise birthday celebration for one of my “poetry friends.” Jade and Sam picked me up from Shay’s where I’d been having a drink and we went back to Sam and Dawn’s place, where some of the attendees were gathered. Haha the surprise totally didn’t work, but it was still a fun night. I love catching up with old friends. I feel like I never have time to socialize in New York, so it was a great change of pace to hang out and stay awhile.

I’m heading back to New York today but it’s been a good weekend so far. I have a feeling tomorrow will involve a good amount of studying and some quality time with Pub Med looking for articles for my Research Methods project, but I’m glad I made the trip, if only for a little while.
