Happy Thursday. How’s your week going? I’m so excited it’s the first week of summer. I love this season. Even when things are hectic, I feel somehow more at ease. Must be all the extra daylight.

Remember a few weeks ago when I laid out my #LunchBreakChallenge plan? So far, this whole “reclaim the lunchbreak” thing has been going pretty well. Some days it’s easier than others. For example, I’ve found that on clinical days, it makes the most sense to eat at my desk so I can take a break and walk around the block or run an errand. A lunch-for-the-brain break, if you will.

At home, though, I’ve been much better at getting away from my desk. That said, some days when I feel like I have a mountain of work to do, it can be so tempting to just bring my plate over to my desk. I start trying to bargain with myself or rationalize (Joan Didion has said she eats while working, I’ll think, but then my logic brain takes over and is, like, Dude, why do you even remember reading that? And besides, you’re not Joan Didion, or my clinical brain will be, like, A few stress-reducing minutes now will save you dollars and heartache later).

Whatever works.

I love salads at lunchtime—it’s a habit that’s a good fit for me. I love the combination of colors, flavors, and textures. They’re also super-easy to customize and make a great vehicle for leftovers. Lately I’ve been enjoying fruit as a lunch dessert of sorts to provide some complex carbs to round out the meal and cap things off with a little something sweet. Sure, salad, may sound like a nutritionist cliche, but cliche for a reason!

Of course, salad is just one of the many healthy lunch options out there. I thought it would be fun to share what some other RDs eat for lunch, so in this Fitness article, I shared some go-to midday meals from other dietitians. I hope you enjoy reading the piece as much as I loved writing it and talking lunch with these awesome ladies!

What’s your go-to lunch?
