Happy What I Ate Wednesday. Hope you’re having a good week so far. Mine has been the kind of busy that feels like living three different lives, but in a good way.

For this week’s edition of this “what I ate” link-up I thought I’d share another Saturday with you, only instead of a day at the hospital or a lazy-ish spring day, I have some pictures from my little trip to the suburbs last weekend. Friday night was the mindful cooking class I co-taught out there, and Saturday was a mix of clients, mani-pedis with my mom, and some other family stuff before heading back to the city for a relaxing night of organizing and home-decorating—aka finally dealing with frames I’ve been meaning to change the pictures in for years. What used to hold X-Rays of my once D-deficient skeleton (long story) now holds pictures of cherry blossoms. Here’s one: stock-footage-mysterious-cherry-blossoms-japanese-garden-cartoony-d-render

So yeah. Trading in old pictures of bones for pictures of pretty things in bloom probably means I’ve officially turned in my Hipster ID card, but then, it’s not like a Hipster ID card comes with any perks like special discounts on important life stuff.

But right, you’re here for the food-stuffs. Anyway.

Breakfast: I couldn’t decide if I wanted leftover lamb for breakfast or oatmeal, so I decided to do both. Whenever I experiment with new food concoctions, I tell myself that if I hate it, I never have to make it again. This was actually really good, if splendidly ugly: oats with lamb

In case you’re curious, that’s oats and flax with egg white cooked in. I topped the bowl with baby kale, a small piece of lamb, and a dollop of plain Greek yogurt. I sprinkled paprika on top because I couldn’t not. Strange as this was, I’d make it again.

Lunch: Sashimi lunch box at a sushi place near the salon my mom and I went to. Totally hit the spot.

Snacks: Later in the afternoon I had an apple and then a serving of dry-roasted edamame on the bus back to the city. I didn’t take a picture though because I had someone next to me.

Dinner: I grabbed a container of this Rustic Slow Cooker Chicken with Tomato & Olives from the freezer and thawed it in the microwave. I added steamed kale and parmesan and called it dinner. Oh, and I had a glass of white wine. I am very glad to have been turned onto Touraine, a more affordable but still delicious alternative to Sancerre. It’s basically the next town over so very similar. If you like sauvignon blanc, you’ll probably like it. Anyway.

Bedtime Snack: A sliced banana with a tsp of peanut butter. Forgot to take a picture because I was so tired, but I’m sure you can use your imagination.

What was the best thing you ate last weekend? Do you have any wine recommendations for me?
