The title for this week’s food-journal post comes from this song, but also my favorite hashtag as of late. If you follow me on Instagram, you may have noticed a lot of my food photos bearing #SheWorksHardForTheMoney. It amuses me—if you can’t laugh about your workaholic tendencies, you’re doing it wrong.

For this week’s What I Ate Wednesday, I thought I’d share a day of eating when I’m working at the Pediatric hospital, which tends to look like this on my Moves app:

Moves

That was last Friday, a couple hours before I was even done for the day. Comfortable shoes have been a priority. I really want a Fitbit or some other wearable, but can’t seem to pull the trigger. I’ve also been reaching levels of hangry lately I haven’t experienced this I was an intern. I’m sure I’ll adjust, but it’s been ridiculous. One day I’m sure I’ll miss the ability/need to eat all the things.

Breakfast: Lately, I’ve been stuck on green smoothies with cereal and a drizzle of coconut oil for breakfast after a workout. green smoothie with cereal

Lunch at the hospital is usually a salad from the cafeteria. If we didn’t have a meal credit I’d probably pack lunch, but the $6.25 goes a decent way. Sometimes I take a picture, and sometimes I don’t. cafeterian clamshell salad

Snacks: I usually bring a few things with me in the morning in case I want a snack, such as fruit, cherry tomatoes, dry-roasted edamame, single-serve packs of hummus, chia shots, maybe plain Greek yogurt and a packet of honey (I’ll use half) if I know I’m going to need a more filling snack. For example…desk snack yogurt with berries

Dinner: I’ve been terrible about cooking after getting home from a clinical shift lately. Luckily, I’ve been able to get some meal prep done on the weekends and throw something together based on whatever roasted veggies and other odds & ends are in the fridge or leftovers in the freezer. Sometimes this is more salad (bonus when avocado & smoked salmon toast happens, though because this is the best combo ever) because it’s too hot to cook, but whatever. I’ve been trying to avoid eating dinner at my desk, but sometimes I fail at that too.  I’m doing better, though, I swear! Salmon avo toast and salad

On my days where I work from home, I step up the dinner game a bit, like so:scallops veg avocado

Depending on the time, I might have something to eat before bed, such as fruit with peanut butter or more yogurt, but I’ve been terrible at taking pictures.

The good news is that I’m finally getting to my normal hours this week and will soon only be working, like, 40-50 hours or so per week between everything instead of, like, 60. It’s the little things. Some people might find the juggling act of clinical work with private/consulting/freelance a bit of a hassle, but I like having a few different things going. I’m sure I have adult ADD, but it keeps things interesting.
