Good morning! Since I’m sure everyone is sick of talking about the election, I’m going to talk about the NYC Marathon this past Sunday. I was covering at the hospital, which happened to be really near the route, and it was inspiring to hear people’s stories and feel the secondhand excitement. I’m not a runner myself, but I can totally dig that focus and training it takes to accomplish a big goal.

Did I love the re-routes and street closures? Hell no! That said, I feel like it all adds up to some big giant metaphor I needed to mull over on my long walk home (buses were just, like, “Um, no”).

“Pace yourself.”

Duh. I have not been doing such a great job of that this year, but it’s something I’ve been working on.

Anyway. Let’s get to the “what I ate” part of this weekly food diary link-up.

Breakfast: Savory oats with tahini and eggplant dip

Lunch: Salad comprised of greens, leftover roasted veggies, turmeric cauliflower rice, a little goat cheese, and an egg (I’d brought 2 eggs and had one as a mid-morning snack). Red wine vinegar as dressing.

Snack: An (unpictured) apple mid-afternoon before setting off on my walk home; when I got back to my apartment, I dove into a little Monday food prepp and ate some plain Greek yogurt with cinnamon and topped it with a few wedges of a murasaki sweet potato (a white-fleshed Japanese yam) I was cooking for a recipe, along with some pumpkin mixed with a tablespoon of PB2, and a drizzle of maple syrup—random but hit the spot. I was so hungry!

I did a few writing/email tasks and then went to a restorative yoga class. It was so relaxing. When I got home I heated up some dinner: A bowl of venison chili I’d prepped the day before. I used this recipe but left out the butternut squash. I also served it over some of that cauliflower rice I’d had at lunch.

Snack: Was a little hungry after dinner so had a 1/2 cup of plain yogurt mixed with pumpkin and cinnamon and drizzled with a little maple syrup. Sorry, no picture! Was too tired.
