Happy Wednesday. Hope you’re having a great week so far. I’m enjoying a few days back in the city playing catch-up after a lovely Christmas with my family and am looking forward to seeing them again for New Years. It was great to take it slow for a few days and to catch up with my favorite little bichon.

For today’s edition of this weekly “what I ate” series, I’ve got a look at some of the food we enjoyed over Christmas.

Christmas Eve is actually my favorite part of the Christmas holiday. In my family, it’s always been a cozy, low-key event. I enjoy spending the afternoon cooking and prepping with my mom and sister. Even if we’re not cooking for a crowd, it’s still nice to prepare a special meal.

In the morning, I was up early because freaky morning people genes and did a little cardio on the elliptical. After a shower I enjoyed some savory oatmeal with tahini.

Later in the morning we went to yoga before diving into some food prep. I made us salads and baked salmon using frozen filets my mom had on hand. They came out deliciously but did NOT photograph well.

At some point in the afternoon I had Greek yogurt with chia seeds and a drizzle of maple syrup but forgot to take a picture. Christmas Eve dinner usually includes a combination of traditional foods from both sides of the family..and sushi as an appetizer.

This year, we also put out kielbasa to go with said sushi. Eli was intrigued.

We always do lamb on Christmas Eve using my Greek Grandma’s recipe. It’s always so good. This year we made balsamic roasted mushrooms and miso cauliflower to go with it. My mom and I agree out favorite was the miso roasted cauliflower, so look for a recipe for that soon

For dessert, I had beautiful sliced strawberries and homemade whipped cream.

I probably didn’t need to have a bourbon and two glasses of sparkling wine (Gruet, one of my favorites), but since I enjoyed them over the course of, like, six hours, it didn’t hit me hard.

Christmas Day we always do a late breakfast. Leftover veggies are perfect for omelets. We also usually nibble on leftover sushi Christmas morning too. Weird is good!

Christmas Day was spent with my mom’s side of the family, where we enjoyed a buffet of different appetizers—much more informal than years past, but still delicious!
